Our verdict

Hyrax combines repository discovery, audits, PR review and fix proposals with context served to AI coding tools over MCP. It is worth evaluating when AI-assisted development has made shared architecture knowledge harder to maintain. Human review remains part of the workflow. Variable credit consumption and hosted access to repository data should be tested and reviewed before broad adoption.

Full review

Hyrax is a hosted repository analysis tool for engineering teams using GitHub and AI coding assistants. It discovers repository architecture and conventions, audits code, reviews pull requests and offers fixes as pull requests for a developer to review and merge. It is a candidate for teams that want codebase-wide checks alongside individual coding sessions, not a replacement for engineering review.

Repository context and audits

Current documentation says discovery context is stored in the Hyrax workspace and served to coding tools over MCP. Nothing is committed into the repository by discovery. That differs from older descriptions of HYRAX.md and an in-repository discovery directory, which we have removed from this listing. Findings identify problems, priorities and file locations. The public sample audit shows a dashboard, finding list and proposed fix controls on a sample repository.

Fixes and human review

Hyrax describes generating a branch and pull request for selected fixes, checking its work before submission and leaving the merge to your team. Automatic PR review is enabled by default for connected repositories and can be turned off per repo. Generated changes still need tests and review against your system’s requirements. The sample app demonstrates the workflow, not the accuracy or coverage of a real audit on our own repository.

Connections and privacy

GitHub provides repository access; documented integrations include Linear and MCP-capable coding tools. Official pricing says AI inference runs on AWS Bedrock. Security documentation says source clones are removed at job end, staged copies expire within seven days as a backstop, and finding metadata and job history remain with the workspace. Backups and deletion records have separate retention periods. Provider data terms still matter: do not treat hosted processing as a blanket no-training or no-retention guarantee.

Pricing

Free workspaces get the full product with up to 100 free PR reviews a month, a one-time $30 starter credit and $10 of monthly credit. Paid costs $30 per seat per month and includes $30 of monthly usage credit per seat. Monthly credit expires at period end; starter credit does not. Workflow costs vary by repository and job, so the seat price is not a promise of unlimited audits. Paid overage is opt-in and can be capped. With overage off, new cost-bearing work stops when available credit is exhausted.

Editorial assessment

Hyrax’s useful combination is repository discovery, prioritized findings, reviewed fix PRs and shared context for coding assistants. The free path gives teams a way to inspect real findings without committing to paid seats. Hosted repository access and variable job costs are the main tradeoffs. Start with a representative repository and evaluate finding relevance, generated diffs and usage before adopting it as a routine gate.

Our 3.7/5 editorial rating is based on the official product, current documentation, pricing, legal pages and public read-only sample app checked October 10, 2026. We did not connect a repository, run an audit or measure finding accuracy, fix quality or time savings.

Who it's for

Best for

  • Engineering teams using GitHub and AI coding tools who want repository-wide findings and reviewed fix proposals.

Not ideal for

  • Teams that want an autonomous agent merging code without human approval
  • or orgs whose repos cannot be accessed by a cloud service.

How we tested

Official product, pricing, current documentation, privacy and terms checked October 10, 2026. Inspected the official read-only sample app and captured its real dashboard and findings UI. No repository connected, audit run or independent finding/fix accuracy test. Screenshots contain vendor sample data. Rating is an editorial desk-research assessment, not a benchmark.

What's new

Current documentation describes workspace-stored discovery context served over MCP. Re-run discovery after significant repository changes.

Key features

Codebase mapping
Profiles repository architecture and conventions in the Hyrax workspace. MCP lets connected AI tools read that context; discovery does not commit it to the repo.
Repository audits
Audits produce findings with priorities and file locations across categories such as security, correctness, performance and architecture.
Fix pull requests
Selected findings can become proposed fixes on branches and pull requests. Your team reviews and merges the changes.
Revalidation
Re-checks existing findings against the current code. Public repos can use read-only audits and revalidation; fixes need the GitHub App installed.
Shared context for humans and AI
Workspace discovery context is served to MCP-capable coding tools, including Claude Code, Cursor and Copilot.
Automatic PR review
Reviews incoming pull requests for connected repositories, with comments and a check run. Enabled by default and configurable per repo.

Key benefits

  • Gives engineers and coding tools a shared view of repository architecture and conventions.
  • Prioritized findings and revalidation help teams focus review work.
  • No feature walls: the free tier runs the same full product, metered by credits.

Frequently asked questions

What does Hyrax actually do?
Hyrax discovers repository context, audits code, reviews pull requests and proposes fixes for a human to review and merge. Current discovery context stays in the Hyrax workspace and is served to coding tools over MCP, not committed as HYRAX.md.
Is Hyrax free?
Yes, the full product is free: up to 100 PR reviews a month, a $30 starter credit and $10/month of ongoing credits, with no credit card required. Paid is $30/user/mo and adds $30/month of credits per user plus opt-in overage with budget caps.
How do Hyrax credits work?
Jobs draw down workspace credit at costs that vary by workflow and repository. Starter credit does not expire; monthly credits expire at period end. Free has no overage. Paid overage is off by default and can be capped. With no credit or permitted overage left, new cost-bearing jobs stop.
Does Hyrax work with AI coding tools like Claude Code?
Yes. Current documentation describes serving workspace repository context over MCP to Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot and other MCP-capable tools. Re-run discovery after important architecture changes.
Where does Hyrax run its AI inference?
All AI inference runs on AWS Bedrock, according to the official pricing page.
