IT companies on AppsInsight are ordered by our editors, category by category. Where editors have not yet ranked a category, an automatic ordering applies: highest client rating first, then review count, then verified status, then name. Featured placements are paid, always labeled, and never influence organic rank numbers.
Editorial ranking, category by category
Each service category has its own editorial ranking, set by AppsInsight editors who weigh client feedback, portfolio and case-study depth, verification status, service focus, and responsiveness. Editorial ranks are reviewed when categories change materially — new entrants, significant review activity, or verification changes. Editors are not told about any commercial relationship between AppsInsight and the companies they rank.
The automatic fallback order
Categories our editors have not yet hand-ranked are ordered automatically by a fixed formula: highest client rating → most reviews → verified status → alphabetical name. Paid signals are deliberately excluded from this formula — a company’s featured or advertising status has zero effect on where it appears in the organic order.
What the rank number on cards means
The #N badge on a company card shows the company’s current position in that category under the ordering described above. Rank #1 additionally carries a trophy mark. These numbers update when editors adjust rankings or, in automatic categories, when ratings and reviews change.
Sorting the directory yourself
Every category archive lets you re-sort by rating, review count, verified status, name, and more. When you choose your own sort, you are seeing raw data ordered by your chosen field — editorial ranking applies only to the default view.
The badge glossary
- Verified — AppsInsight editors have confirmed the company’s identity and core details. An editorial check, never sold.
- Claimed — AppsInsight editors maintain the company profile and keep its details current.
- Featured — a paid placement. Always labeled, shown in designated featured slots, and excluded from organic rank order. Active sponsored counts are published in our Transparency Report.
- Awards & certifications — supplied by the company for display. We show them for context; they carry no weight in rankings.
What never affects editorial ranks
- Advertising spend, featured placements, or referral relationships.
- Whether a company has claimed its profile or contacted us.
- Legal threats or demands to suppress client reviews.
