Our verdict

Quo earns its rating as the small-business phone pick: shared numbers and inboxes, calling and texting to US and Canadian numbers on every plan, AI call summaries and an AI agent included, plus an open API and MCP support. The 7-day trial is short, but setup is genuinely fast.

Quo, formerly known as OpenPhone, is a shared business phone system built for small businesses and startups. The company was founded in 2018 by Mahyar Raissi and Daryna Kulya, went through Y Combinator, and still operates under the legal entity OpenPhone Technologies, Inc. The product rebrand to Quo keeps the same mission: giving small teams a professional phone presence with shared numbers, shared inboxes and modern AI features instead of personal cell numbers and legacy desk phones.

Every plan includes one new or ported local or toll-free number per user, calling and messaging to US and Canadian numbers, voicemail transcripts, email ticket support, the Quo API and Sona, Quo’s AI agent, plus ChatGPT and Claude MCP connections and monthly automation credits. The shared inbox is the heart of the product: teammates see every call, text and voicemail on a number in one thread, can comment internally, and can hand conversations

The shared inbox is the heart of the product: teammates see every call, text and voicemail on a number in one thread, can comment internally, and can hand conversations off without the customer noticing. Business adds AI call summaries and transcripts, group calling and custom ring orders, while Scale adds AI call tags, dedicated onboarding and priority live chat and email support. Apps run on web, iOS and Android, and integrations cover Slack, HubSpot, Salesforce, Google Contacts and Make.

Pricing, verified on the official pricing page in October 2026, is per user with monthly or annual billing. Starter is $28 per user per month monthly, or $19 per user per month billed annually at $228. Business is $39 monthly, or $27 per user per month billed annually at $324. Scale is $48 monthly, or $36 per user per month billed annually at $432. There is no free plan; all tiers offer a 7-day free trial, and all prices are in USD with taxes and fees added at checkout.

Watch-outs: calling and messaging on base plans covers US and Canadian numbers, so internationally focused teams should check coverage first. The 7-day trial is short for a phone system that involves porting numbers, phone support on lower tiers runs through email tickets, and heavier automation uses metered credits. Businesses needing deep contact-center analytics, power dialers or hundreds of seats will outgrow it.

Overall, Quo is one of the cleanest small-business phone systems available: fast to set up, fairly priced, and genuinely modern on AI. Solo operators, startups and service businesses will feel at home immediately, and the included Sona AI agent gives even tiny teams after-hours cover; larger teams should compare Aircall, Dialpad and RingCentral for deeper call-center features.

Who it's for

Best for

  • Small businesses and startups replacing personal numbers with a shared business line
  • Teams that want calling and texting in one clean shared inbox
  • Service businesses (contractors
  • real estate
  • clinics) that live on the phone
  • Buyers wanting modern AI features without enterprise phone-system complexity

Not ideal for

  • Buyers wanting a free plan or a long trial (7 days only)
  • Large contact centers needing deep queue analytics out of the box
  • Organizations requiring a published phone-support channel on lower tiers

How we tested

We researched Quo in October 2026 using its official website, pricing page, about page, integrations catalog, legal documentation, help center and public app-store listings, and compared its published capabilities and pricing against other VoIP providers in this category. Quo is the rebrand of OpenPhone; the legal entity remains OpenPhone Technologies, Inc. Ratings reflect editorial judgment based on that research. We did not purchase a plan or run a live pilot for this listing.
