Our verdict

A rare AI writing tool that refuses to write for you. The coach draws the story out of your own rough thoughts and keeps you the author, which protects the authentic voice professional audiences reward. It is backed by Swat.io, an established, bootstrapped social media vendor, and the pricing is generous: the full product is free for teams of five or fewer, and after that you pay one euro per coaching session and nothing else.

thestory.run is a writing coach for employees who post under their own name at work – the people often called corporate influencers. It comes from Swat.io GmbH, the Vienna, Austria company behind the Swat.io social media management platform, and it takes a deliberate stance against AI ghostwriting: the coach never writes the post. You drop in a rough thought, the coach asks one question at a time to draw out the story behind it, then it lays out a structure to write into. Once you have a draft, it switches to editor and marks the lines worth keeping and the ones worth moving, reversibly.

Between posts, the product keeps the week moving. A homebase shows the week’s posting pace, a coach’s note folds active campaigns into your plans, and a weekly to-do list, daily reflection prompts, streak tracking, and draft statuses keep drafts from going cold. For teams, an admin

Between posts, the product keeps the week moving. A homebase shows the week’s posting pace, a coach’s note folds active campaigns into your plans, and a weekly to-do list, daily reflection prompts, streak tracking, and draft statuses keep drafts from going cold. For teams, an admin can set a campaign theme and window – a hiring push, a launch, a conference – and the coach works it into everyone’s week without handing anyone a post to write. A team calendar shows who is posting on which days, and an opt-in Wins feed lets colleagues share what landed.

Privacy is a stated design principle: ideas, drafts, and coach conversations stay private to the writer, enforced in the data layer rather than hidden in the interface. Teammates see coordination only. The service is operated under the GDPR and the Austrian Data Protection Act and runs in the European Union, with a published privacy policy and data processing agreement.

The one exception to the no-ghostwriting rule is cheat-mode: a deliberately limited monthly allowance (one cheat for every four posts in your plan, never more than three a month) where the coach writes a post from your material. That post is permanently marked as coach-written and does not count toward your progress.

Pricing is unusual and transparent: free forever for teams of up to five people with the full product, and from the sixth person you pay 1 euro per coaching session plus tax – people, channels, and every feature are always included. Sessions can be prepaid in batches at a 10% discount and never expire. Pricing is labeled beta and subject to change with 30 days’ notice by email.

Who it's for

Best for

  • Founders
  • salespeople
  • recruiters
  • engineers
  • and experts who post under their own name on LinkedIn
  • and teams running coordinated corporate-influencer programs that want structure (campaigns
  • a team calendar
  • streaks) without ghostwritten content.

Not ideal for

  • Teams that want AI to produce posts at scale: cheat-mode is deliberately capped and permanently marked. Also not a fit if you need multi-channel scheduling
  • a social inbox
  • or analytics in the same tool; those live in the sister product Swat.io
  • not here.

How we tested

This profile is a desk review written by Ashley Richmond, chief editor at AppsInsight. We evaluated thestory.run from its official website, pricing page, help center, and published FAQ in September 2026; we have not completed hands-on testing of the coaching flow. Statements about product behavior, privacy enforcement, and pricing come from the vendor's own pages and are presented as vendor claims where they could not be independently verified. Founder names and the exact founding year are not published on the site, so those fields are left blank. We will update this profile after hands-on review.

Frequently asked questions

What is thestory.run?
thestory.run is a web app that coaches employees to write their own LinkedIn posts. The coach asks questions, helps you find the story inside a rough thought, and hands you a structure to write into. It is not an employee advocacy platform and not an AI ghostwriter: what you publish is what you wrote. It is built by Swat.io GmbH in Vienna, Austria.
Does thestory.run write LinkedIn posts for me?
No - with one deliberate exception. The coach asks one question at a time, underlines the strong lines you already wrote, and offers a structure to write into, so every word you publish is a word you wrote. The exception is cheat-mode, a small monthly allowance you can spend to have the coach write one post, permanently marked as coach-written.
What is cheat-mode?
Cheat-mode is the one place thestory.run writes a post for you. You activate it yourself on a piece you have already started, and the coach writes from your material: your rough thought, your conversation, the lines you kept, and a few of your published posts. It spends one of a small monthly allowance - one cheat for every four posts in your plan, never more than three a month - and the post is permanently marked as coach-written.
How much does thestory.run cost?
It is free forever for teams of five people or fewer, with no credit card and no trial clock. From the sixth person you pay 1 euro per coaching session plus tax, and nothing else - people, channels, and every feature are always included. Prepaid session batches are 10% off and never expire. Prices are in euros, with local-currency payment at checkout in over 150 countries.
Can my manager or an admin read my drafts?
No. Your ideas, drafts, coach conversations, and personal plan are private, enforced in the data layer rather than hidden in the interface. Teammates see coordination only: who is posting on which topic and day, and the wins a person chose to share.
Where is my data stored, and is it GDPR compliant?
thestory.run is operated by Swat.io GmbH under the GDPR and the Austrian Data Protection Act, and runs in the European Union. The privacy policy and the data processing agreement are published on the site.
